The painted tombs of the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon, at daybreak.
Luxor’s west bank was the bank of the dead. We set off early to enter the Valley of the Kings in the cool of the morning and visit three royal tombs with their colours still intact.
We continue to the terraced temple of Queen Hatshepsut, set against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, then on to the Colossi of Memnon, two stone giants 18 metres high.
